Friday The 13th

This particular day is supposedly 'unlucky'. People who are superstitious spend the day hiding in the closet. Thankfully I don't feel that this day is any different from any other Friday and will not spend the day hiding in my closet. I don't even have a closet come to think of it, there's a closet door in my room but it leads to the water tank...Also if I were to have to spend an entire day in a closet I might consider that an 'unlucky' occurrence.

Thoughts on the concept of luck:
I try not to use the word luck or phrases like 'that's lucky or unlucky'. I believe in God who is orchestrating my life and thus the idea that my life is dictated and affected by seemingly random events is strange and possibly contrary. I prefer instead of using phrases like lucky or unlucky to call it how it is... Ex. When I see someone taking up two spaces in the parking lot and now don't have a place to park. Some might say 'that's unlucky' I will probably say something like 'this is stupid!' It is a personal conviction to avoid such words and phrases so don't get all "he's saying I'm a bad Christian for using the word luck" on me.
I know that using the words doesn't mean thatsomeone doesn't believe in God's eternal sovereignty and plan for our lives. Christians who use the word luck should not be crucified. For me though, the words and phrases I use show (to some degree) what I believe. So if I continually use phrases that have to do with the concept of luck, it can show that I don't believe that God has plans for me, and that my life is run by chance and fate.

More thoughts on the concept of luck:
Who determines whats lucky and unlucky anyways? If someone is taking up two spaces that apparently 'unlucky for me' but lucky for the guy who drives a motor bike and can fit in that space. It could also be lucky or unlucky for the guy in 2 spaces. He gets a spot and now can do whatever he is parked there for ...but he could get a parking ticket. (which I hope he does... grumble grumble...)
Today is my first day off in two weeks and it is my first day of rest since approximately the day after I preached. My last days off I drove, in bad whether, in a rental car to a wedding which to me doesn't count as a 'day of rest'. I think that could fall under the category of 'lucky' since I get to rest, update my blog, go to BBQ's and what not...

Thoughts on this particular day:
The reason that this day is considered unlucky has some to do with the church ironically enough. One of the popes decided that the 'Nights Templar' had to much power, and decided they should all be killed. He sent out letters, to all be opened on a Friday the 13th, directing the receivers of said letters to kill any Knights in their vicinity. I learned all this from reading 'The DaVinci code' so the facts may be slightly skewed, or entirely wrong. Also I may have skewered some of the fact because my memory fades me in my old age. I may do some research on this subject aside from reading a book that's a work of fiction. "But every thing in the book is true says the claim in the first pages" you say... There has been like fifty books refuting the book and pointing out many of the facts that are not true. But this is slightly off the theme of luck and we shall save this discussion for some other time... for now hope my facts are true and remember 'just like the DaVinci Code this blog is ...a threat to the church??

More thoughts on this particular day:
Rather than the torture of having 'unlucky' things happen, A friend of mine once had several good things happen to him on Friday the 13th. He got a job, reconnected with friends and generally had a great day. my response to this is a quote from the movie 'The lady and the tramp' ...'If this is torture ...chain me to the wall!"

Up dates and things of that nature:
My friend (and long lost... sister? brother? ...sibling!) Lacey is moving to Lethbridge today... according to her blog which I read earlier today.
Now we can hang out and do cool stuff that is at least we can until (as luck would have it) I go to camp for the summer... That's right folks I've made my decision and have decided that God wants me back at camp for four (4) full months...(minus the time when me and my friend Josh are going to corner stone music festival. If any one else wants to come with us. You are welcome, contact me for details and such...)
It was a tough decision to make but I'm glad I made it and I feel peace about it. Fortunately the camp has Internet access so hopefully I can update my blog as frequently as I did when I was living at my parents house...
The 'name that post' contest winner will be announced at your regular 'the project' time...in your regular 'The Project' place...

Basically now... and here...
The winner is ....(drum roll please)
Alan Fehr ...for his entry of 'in aComo'
He though he was naming my blog at the time... but it is inside joke filled and I can respond with 'I get it ...its a play on words'
Congratulations Alan! You win a brand new car...bonated beverage.
for the rest of you that entered ...
Thank you for entering and ...better luck next time

Until I write again

p.s.
If any of you gets a letter from the pope today, I hope its not to kill me..
I don't think my blog (or 'The DaVinci code' for that matter) is a threat to the church...

Actually, 'funnily' enough, the inside cover of the Davinci Code also says that this work is fiction and any similarities in names, yada, yada, yada, are purely incidental . . . random useless fact for you, but one that I and some others found quite amusing.
